Thursday's Peninsula Breakfast Briefing

By Derek Davis

10th Dec 2020 | Local News

ON THIS DAY: In 1979, 20 year old stuntman Eddie Kidd accomplished a 'death-defying' motorcycle leap when he crossed an 80ft gap over a 50ft sheer drop above a viaduct at Maldon, Essex. He jumped the Great Wall of China in 1993, but his career ended after he suffered serious head injuries in 1996 at a Hell's Angels rally in Warwickshire.

Weather:

It will be a cloudy day, with outbreaks of patchy light rain and drizzle at times, especially over the hills. Winds will be freshening from the west later in the day. Feeling cold underneath the cloud and rain. Maximum temperature 7c, with a low of 5c.

Orwell Bridge:

Quote of the day:

My mechanic told me not to do the jump, but there were 20,000 people there, and I didn't want to let them down. That's the one thing I regret - maybe I should have been selfish.

Eddie Kidd

Joke of the day:

A daredevil was dared to walk backwards on a tightrope.

- You could say he wasn't looking forward to it
