Tattingstone Heath Christmas lights picture special

By Derek Davis 6th Dec 2021

Neighbours in Tattingstone Heath have lit up a section of a main peninsula road with a stunning Christmas lights display.

The small community showed its togetherness by helping each other put up lights along the A137 close to the Wheatsheaf Beer House, then held an outdoor gathering for the switch on.

Children, in high vis, walked along the path with parents to enjoy the spectacle with an array of different coloured lights and patterns.

It ranged from the very tasteful yellow coloured lights from a couple of homes, to brightly bedecked houses with reindeers, snowmen, Santas and rock star images.

As one homeowner put it: "We are putting the tat into Tattingstone."

All good fun as the community gathered in one large driveway to enjoy mulled wine, mince pies and chocolate.

Electrician Paul Moore was on hand to ensure everything was done safely, and as the lights were mainly low voltage LED, there was a nod to CO2 emissions and the climate.

Passing motorists tooted their horns in appreciation, as they slowed down in the 30mph limit and could also enjoy the lights.

The mini event was well supported by the neighbours turning out just as many did during the Clap for Carers period, when villagers came out to sing, blow bubbles and show their appreciation to the NHS and care home workers.

It was then back to the Wheatsheaf for some of the adults as they enjoyed a roaring fire and a range of ales and the famed pheasant stew.
