Takeaway Review: The Bull at Brantham

Although Boris has given the green light for pubs to reopen on July 4, many are still fighting a bitter battle just to survive. The Hungry Hack has been checking out the takeaways during the hibernation and we have featured more than dozen pubs and other takeaway outlets so far.

Today we focus on the Bull at Brantham, one of the most historic pubs located right on the edge of Shotley peninsula, where in ordinary times you can enjoy your meal with view over the River Stour.

Paul and Gemma Chenery have built a fabulous reputation as a popular venue with their lunches and dinner menu.

Their takeaways hit the same high standard and the choice is remarkably good, changing on each of the days they are open, currently Friday, Saturdays and Sunday.

The Hungry Hack and his son are avid Sunday roast fans and gorged ourselves on Father's Day with the Bull's traditional English roast sirloin of beef and roast chicken lunches, there was also roast loin of pork, sausage and mash or a Bull burger, on the menu.

The vegetarian option on the day that we went, was creamy garlic mushrooms served with rice, and those with a sweet tooth will be delighted with the choice of delicious desserts, which varies each day.

We shared the Yorkshire puddings and both our meals, came with an array of vegetables and separate tubs of delicious gravy to pour over the tastiest of beef and chicken, which were wolfed down with no mercy.

The Bull's collection system is simple and effective. You order ahead, there is spacious car parking, walk up to the side door where pleasant young lady takes a contactless card payment and your freshly cooked meal is placed on a table for you to pick up.

Call 01473 328248 to order, and for prices and details check the Bull at Brantham page here, or go to their social media pages for updates.
