The reason we lost an hour's sleep overnight as the clocks went forward by an hour. is originally down to Benjamin Franklin in 1784 as a way of saving the use of candles. It was brought to the UK by Coldplay singer Chris Martin's great-great grandfather William Willett in 1907 who produced a paper called; 'The Waste of daylight' bemoaning the fact his games of golf were cut short in the evenings due the loss of sunlight.
