A soldier and sailor are combining forces to raise money for a UK military veterans mental health charity.

The duo are taking part in a 10km (six mile) walk from Pin Mill to Shotley gate as part of the Walking Home for Christmas campaign, on the morning of Sunday, 18 December.

Soldier Keith Taylor, who served with the Royal Anglians and Derek Davis, whose career in the Royal Navy started at HMS Ganges, before serving on ships including HMS Falmouth, HMS Minerva and HMS Bulwark, will be raising funds for the >>>

It will be particularly challenging for Mr Taylor who has recently undergone knee restructuring surgery. You can sponsor Keith by signing his sponsorship form when you see him at Shotley sailing Club, Woolverstone marina or other parts of the peninsula.

Derek is taking sponsorship online and you can also donate to the duo via the Walking Home for Christmas page.

Walking With The Wounded 'WWTW' deliver employment, mental health, care coordination and volunteering programmes in collaboration with the NHS to get those who served, and their families, whether mentally, socially or physically wounded, back on their feet and making a positive contribution once more.

WWTW do four things: employment, mental health, care coordination and volunteering which are saving jobs, homes, relationships and lives for the veterans who are struggling since leaving the military.

For the small but significant minority of ex-service men and women who do not have a successful transition to civilian life, WWTW provides high-intensity support to help them regain their independence and thrive.

Keith and Derek are looking to raise funds specifically to help veterans with various mental health care packages, from £43, which could fund an emergency food shop for a Veteran, £86 could fund a private 1-2-1 therapy session for a Veteran, beginning the process of addressing their mental health need, while £1,038 could fund a course of therapy, giving a veteran the tools they need to support their mental health, now and in the future.
