Wines from Shotley Vineyard are to be included in a new Suffolk venture.

Swedish native Hans Engstrom at the recently re-opened Rabbits at the Bush in Shimpling, near Bury St Edmunds is stocking a section of wines from Shotley Vineyard in the pub's collection of 18 English wines.

Many of the wines are from Suffolk and Essex making it one of the largest selections, if not in East Anglia, but the UK.

Amongst them are selections from Hans' own vineyard, which are unfiltered to 'leave more room for ageing and to let things happen naturally in the bottle'.

Single variety Chardonnay is still in the barrel, and there are small amounts of Pinot Noir, as well as a Chardonnay and Baccus blend - matching the bright, citrussy, gooseberry nature of the latter, with the butteriness of the former.

As well as wines from Shotley, there will be bottles from Burnt House, Giffords, Toppesfield and many more are chilled and ready to sample…with Adnams, Woodfordes, Bishop Nick and Little Earth Project beers on tap.

"These are exciting times," Hans told Suffolk Food Stories. "We're always going to be evolving. But we've moving the right way."

You don't have travel to Shimpling though, you can buy Shotley's Pinot Noir Rose, Bacchus or Sparkling Wine online.

Pop in for a coffee or taster event, meanwhile the vineyard is Friday to Sunday 10am to 2pm serving locally roasted coffee beans and cake from the Penny Roaster and Penny Baker.
