The main source of the pong that has offended many noses in the Shotley area of late will soon be gone after a delivery of chemicals.

Nub News can reveal the main source of the smell which caused such a stink, especially around Shotley Gate, was a sewer system at Shotley Caravan Park at Gate Farm.

Many villagers complained about a human poo smell and while the spreading of manure on farmers' fields led to complaints around the peninsula, sewer issues at the bottom end of the site have compounded the pong.

A problem with the capacity of a sceptic tank, and sewerage pipes was initially identified more two months ago and the site owners moved to deal with the issue. They have worked with Anglian Water and also ordered suitable chemicals to counter the smelly outcome

Delays in delivery were blamed by suppliers on Covid-19, has meant the owners have not been able to proactively address the stink until now.

Those chemicals arrived today and Nub News understands the whole smelly issue will be resolved over the next couple of days.

Meanwhile, much-needed muck spreading on fields to provide crops for the nation, has been completed and the normal countryside aroma will be resumed.
