The Shotley peninsula has one of the highest levels of Covid, according to latest Government figures.

It has been confirmed that 47 people on the peninsula were tested positive in the week between October 3 and October 10, which was the 27th worst in a table of 95 Suffolk areas.

It is understood one particular social group on the peninsula was responsible for a large number of the outbreak, when testing by the close knit participants following a positive result by one of its members showed others had been affected.

The data shows the areas of Suffolk where coronavirus cases are at their highest and lowest and there is a vast differences in the number of confirmed cases in different areas.

Saxmundham and Coldfair Green currently has the lowest coronavirus rate of any neighbourhood area, known as an MSOA, in the county.

The latest numbers gave the area a rate of just 72.2 cases per 100,000 people in the week to October 10 after just seven new cases there.

The area with the highest data was Whitton in Ipswich where the rate was 1282.9 cases per 100,000 people following 99 new cases in the area.

All five Suffolk districts saw an increase last week, with East Suffolk reporting 1,105 new cases and West Suffolk recording 889.

The Suffolk case rate is higher than the East of England and England as a whole, with Babergh recording 473 cases, and Mid Suffolk 446.

In the week up to October 14 there were 3,950 new lab-confirmed cases of the virus in Suffolk, an increase of 1,023 on the previous week's figure of 2,927.

The rate of new weekly cases in Suffolk has increased and is now, at 399 cases per 100,000 people.

This is above the rates for the East of England region which is 335.6 per 100,000 and for England as a whole, which is 376.1 per 100,000.

As of October 1, the most recent data, there have been 1,631 deaths in Suffolk where Covid-19 was recorded on the death certificate. There have been 12 Covid-19 related deaths in the most recent week of data.
