A Shotley peninsula developer has made an unusual request to Babergh District Council planners to reduce the number of houses it has permission to build.

Shotley Marina has asked to reduce the number of homes it was going to build from 150 to 131.

It aims to achieve this by relocating 10 of these 131 homes away from a Martello Tower, which would appease Historic England concerns of a heritage asset.

The 10 new homes would be built along side the marina, starting across from Laundry Hill, opposite the first housing at Ganges Point, which would have pedestrian and cycle access to the Spine Road going through the former HMS Ganges site, know called Barrelmans Point.

They would be in the same luxury waterfront style as the 12 houses built at Admiralty Pier, also owned by the Shotley marina developers.

The whole Shotley marina site used to be part of the HMS Ganges' Royal Navy Training Establishment.

Victory House, used to be Enwight Block used for ships husbandry training. It is home to the HMS Ganges Museum, Shipwreck Bar and Restaurant and the Shipwreck Lofts accommodation.

The marina itself, which berths visiting yachts, fishing vessels and other boats, used to be the athletics track and field.
