An Order for online Morning Prayer during the Epiphany Season

Welcome and notices

The Lord be with you

and also with you.

Preparation

Online Morning Prayer during the Epiphany Season

I have seen it myself, and bear witness, that this is the chosen one of God. John 1:34

As God who called you is holy,

be holy yourselves in all your conduct. Spirit of God, search our hearts.

Silence is kept.

Let us confess our sins.

Confession

Almighty and merciful God,

we have sinned against you, in thought, word and deed. we have done evil in your sight.

We have not loved you with all our heart.

We have not loved others

as our Saviour Christ loves us.

We are truly sorry.

In your mercy forgive what we have been,

help us to amend what we are,

and direct what we shall be;

that we may delight in your will

and walk in your ways,

through Jesus Christ our Saviour.

Amen.

May Almighty God, who sent his Son into the world to save sinners, bring you his pardon and peace.

Amen.

Absolution

Blessed is the Lord,

for he has heard the voice of our prayer;

therefore shall our hearts dance for joy

and in our song will we praise our God. THE WORD OF GOD

A Song of the New Jerusalem is said

Above you the Holy One arises, and above you God's glory appears.

1 Arise, shine out, for your light has come, the glory of the Lord is rising upon you.

2 Though night still covers the earth, and darkness the peoples;

3 Above you the Holy One arises, and above you God's glory appears.

4 The nations will come to your light, and kings to your dawning brightness.

5 Your gates will lie open continually, shut neither by day nor by night.

[B[Old Testament Canticle[.B]

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit;

as it was in the beginning is now and shall be for ever. Amen.

Above you the Holy One arises,

and above you God's glory appears.

At the end the reader says

In this is the word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

The Benedictus is said.

1 Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel, who has come to his people and set them free.

2 He has raised up for us a mighty Saviour, born of the house of his servant David.

3 Through his holy prophets God promised of old to save us from our enemies,

from the hands of all that hate us,

4 To show mercy to our ancestors, and to remember his holy covenant.

Reading(s)

Gospel Canticle

6 The sound of violence shall be heard no longer in your land, or ruin and devastation within your borders.

7 You will call your walls, Salvation, and your gates, Praise.

8 No more will the sun give you daylight, nor moonlight shine upon you;

9 But the Lord will be your everlasting light, your God will be your splendour.

10 For you shall be called the city of God,

5 This was the oath God swore to our father Abraham: to set us free from the hands of our enemies,

6 Free to worship him without fear, holy and righteous in his sight

all the days of our life.

7 And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,

8 To give his people knowledge of salvation by the forgiveness of all their sins.

the dwelling of the Holy One of Israel.

Isaiah 60.1-3,11a,18,19,14b

9 In the tender compassion of our God the dawn from on high shall break upon us,

10 To shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death,

and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit;

as it was in the beginning is now and shall be for ever. Amen.

A sermon is preached. We affirm our faith.

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

Prayers

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body.

Gathering our prayers and praises into one, let us pray with confidence as our Saviour has taught us

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name;

Luke 1.68-79

Sermon The Apostles' Creed

We sit or kneel for the intercessions.

This Collect or the Collect for the day is said.

Eternal Lord, our beginning and our end:

bring us with the whole creation to your glory, hidden through past ages and made known in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Gathering our prayers and praises into one, as our Saviour has taught us, so we pray

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are yours

now and for ever.

Amen.

(or)

The Lord's Prayer

thy kingdom come;

thy will be done;

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation;

but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,

the power and the glory,

for ever and ever.

Amen.

Eternal God,

grant to us this day and every day such readiness and delight in following Christ, that whether our lives are short or long

we shall have lived abundantly.

Amen.

Christ the Son be manifest to you, that your lives may be a light to the world, and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always. Amen.
