The Shoreline Benefice

Shotley, Chelmondiston, Harkstead and Erwarton

Let us rejoice and sing God's praise for ever.

Alleluia. Christ is risen.

He is risen indeed. Alleluia.

Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ:

he has given us new life and hope by raising Jesus from the dead.

Alleluia. Christ is risen.

He is risen indeed. Alleluia.

The Greeting

HYMN:

  1. The Lord's my Shepherd, I'll not want. He makes me lie in pastures green.

He leads me by the still, still waters,

His goodness restores my soul.

Chorus:

And I will trust in You alone,

And I will trust in You alone,

for Your endless mercy follows me, Your goodness will lead me home.

  1. He guides my ways in righteousness, And He anoints my head with oil,
And my cup, it overflows with joy, I feast on his pure delights.

Chorus

And though I walk the darkest path,

I will not fear the evil one,

For You are with me, and Your rod and staff

Are the comfort I need to know.

Prayers of Penitence

Christ, the Light of the World,

has come to dispel the darkness of our hearts. In his light let us examine ourselves

and confess our sins.

Almighty God,

long-suffering and of great goodness:

I confess to you,

I confess with my whole heart

my neglect and forgetfulness of your commandments, my wrong doing, thinking, and speaking;

the hurts I have done to others,

and the good I have left undone.

O God, forgive me, for I have sinned against you;

and raise me to newness of life;

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

May the God of love and power

forgive you and free you from your sins,

heal and strengthen you by his Spirit,

and raise you to new life in Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Gloria

Glory to God in the highest,

and peace to his people on earth.

Lord God, heavenly King,

almighty God and Father,

we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory.

Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God,

you take away the sin of the world:

have mercy on us;

you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer.

For you alone are the Holy One,

you alone are the Lord,

you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit,

in the glory of God the Father.

Amen.

The Collect

This collect, or the collect for the day is said

Risen Christ,

faithful shepherd of your Father's sheep:

teach us to hear your voice

and to follow your command,

that all your people may be gathered into one flock, to the glory of God the Father.

Amen.

THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

Our reading is from the book of Acts (4.5–12)

The next day their rulers, elders, and scribes assembled in Jerusalem, with Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, John, and Alexander, and all who were of the high-priestly family. When they had made the prisoners stand in their midst, they inquired, 'By what power or by what name did you do this?' Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, 'Rulers of the people and elders, if we are questioned today because of a good deed done to someone who was sick and are asked how this man has been healed, let it be known to all of you, and to all the people of Israel, that this man is standing before you in good health by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead. This Jesus is

"the stone that was rejected by you, the builders;

it has become the cornerstone."

There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among mortals by which we must be saved.'

Affirmation of Faith

In this is the word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

Our Gospel reading is from the Gospel according to John (10.11–18)

Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John

Glory to you, O Lord.

'I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. The hired hand, who is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away—and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. The hired hand runs away because a hired hand does not care for the sheep. I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. And I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life in order to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it up again. I have received this command from my Father.'

Prayers of Intercession

This is the Gospel of the Lord.

Praise to you, O Christ.

Sermon

The sermon is followed by a time of reflection with music playing

We believe in God the Father, from whom every family

in heaven and on earth is named.

We believe in God the Son,

who lives in our hearts through faith, and fills us with his love.

We believe in God the Holy Spirit, who strengthens us

with power from on high.

We believe in one God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

This response is used

Jesus, Lord of Life,

in your mercy, hear us.

And at the end

Jesus, Lord of Life,

in your mercy, hear us,

accept our prayers, and be with us always. Amen.

THE LITURGY OF THE SACRAMENT

The risen Christ came and stood among his disciples and said, 'Peace be with you.'

Then they were glad when they saw the Lord. Alleluia!

The peace of the Lord be always with you.

And also with you.

The Lord is here.

His Spirit is with us.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give thanks and praise.

It is always right, wherever we are, to give you thanks and praise, God our Father,

holy and strong,

king for ever.

Through your Son,

you made us and the whole universe.

When his time had come,

Jesus suffered, and died on the cross. On the third day

you raised him from the dead,

and crowned him Lord of all.

You send your Spirit

to bring new life to the world,

and fill us with power from on high.

And so we join on earth

with saints and angels in heaven to praise your name and sing:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth

are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Father, on the night before he died, Jesus had a meal with his friends.

He took bread and thanked you.

He broke it, gave it to them, and said: Take this and eat it;

this is my body, given for you.

After the meal, Jesus took the cup of wine. He thanked you, gave it to them and said: Drink this, all of you.

This is my blood,

the new covenant of God's love. Do this to remember me.

Jesus Christ has died.

Jesus Christ is risen.

Jesus Christ will come again.

Father, as we remember

his death and resurrection,

send your Holy Spirit,

that the bread and wine we bring before you may be for us Christ's body and his blood.

Pour your Spirit on us that we may live

as children of your heavenly kingdom.

Help us to love one another,

as we work for the peace of the earth, and wait for Jesus to come in glory.

For all honour and glory belong to you, Father, through Jesus Christ your Son,

with the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever.

As our Saviour taught us, so we pray

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are yours

now and for ever.

Amen.

By the power of your Spirit keep us always in your love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

HYMN:
  1. Christ is made the sure foundation, Christ the head and cornerstone, chosen of the Lord, and precious, binding all the Church in one,
holy Zion's help for ever, and her confidence alone.
  1. Hear the cry of all your people, what they ask and hope to gain; what they gain from you, for ever with your chosen to retain,
and hereafter in your glory evermore with you to reign.
  1. Praise and honour to the Father, praise and honour to the Son, praise and honour to the Spirit, ever Three and ever One,
One in might and One in glory while unending ages run.

THE DISMISSAL

Alleluia! Christ is risen.

He is risen indeed. Alleluia!

May Christ,

who out of defeat brings new hope and a new future, fill you with his new life;

and the blessing of God almighty,

the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,

be among you and remain with you always. Amen.

Go in the peace of Christ. Alleluia, alleluia.

Thanks be to God. Alleluia, alleluia.
