Peninsula foodies played a huge part in making the Government's Eat Out To Help Out scheme last month.

Nub News highlighted how dozens of pubs and restaurants on the peninusla were taking part in the scheme and diners were hungry to take advantage of the 50% discount.

Latest figures revealed have shown those in the South Suffolk constituency made good use of the scheme, with 99 establishments using the scheme including more than a dozen on the Shotley peninsula, with 78,000 meals claimed for constituency wide at an average discount of £6.01.

Some establishments on the peninsula are continuing with their own offers on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays during September, with the Bakers Arms discounting by 20% and the Freston Boot offering 25%. Both is for diners eating in and off food and soft drinks only.

In Suffolk, where 593,000 meals were bought in total, the average discount per meal was £5.62, with the scheme capped at £10 per person off a bill for a meal and soft drinks.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak thanked the nation's diners for their help in protecting 1.8million people's jobs and driving the country's economic recovery.

"From the get-go our mission has been to protect jobs and to do this we needed be creative, brave and try things that no government has ever done before," Sunak said.

"Today's figures continue to show Eat Out to Help Out has been a success. I want to thank everyone, from restaurant owners to waiters, chefs and diners, for embracing it and helping drive our economic recovery.

"The scheme is just one part of our Plan for Jobs and we will continue to protect, support and create jobs to ensure we come back stronger as a nation."
