Pub-lovers will soon be getting back to their local and while some of the favourites on the peninsula will be open at the earliest opportunity today July 4, some are easing their way back slowly.

Nub News will keep you up to date as pubs open the doors to welcome customers, one way or another and what rules you will be expected to follow.

Protocols will be in place with clear signage and instructions. Hand sanitiser, must be used and bookings required to sit inside.

Bar staff are required for a range of shifts to suit at Bristol Arms, which will be open from July 4 offering river views from the patio with full protocols in place, inside and out. The Bristol will open at 12noon until late.

The Bakers Arms at Harkstead, will open at 11am on Saturday, with a one way system, a text ordering service available and an extra outside undercover seating area.

The Kings Head at Stutton have utilised their outside area out the front for customers as they open in earnest on Saturday.

The Oyster Reach at Wherstead, part of the Beefeater chain, will not be opening until July 30, and booking will start to be taken on July 17.

The Freston Boot aims to open on July 4.

First out of the blocks will be the Butt & Oyster at Pin Mill, which opens at 9am, on July 4, and bookings are already coming in.

Dale Russell, the Butt's general manager, explained how they would operate both inside and out, with the majority of staff returning and are ready to welcome customers, old and new.

"Inside dining tables will be spaced apart to ensure social distancing measures are adhered to," said Dale. "Inside tables will all be table service with no customers coming up to the bar.

"Outside tables will be on a first come, first served basis, the order point will be at a window to help keep as little people queuing inside as possible.

"Food and drinks outside will be served on disposable plates/glassware, drinks will be delivered to tables, food can be collected by customers from the collection hatch.

The staff are excited to get back to work and looking forward to welcoming and serving our customers again."

The Butt & Oyster will be opening 10am-10pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 10pm Saturday and Sunday, serving food everyday until 9pm.

Sarah and Jamie at Shotley's Rose Inn will utilise the car park for tables, which will be well-spaced.

The spruced up Tattingstone Wheatsheaf Beerhouse is opting for a cautious return with Anna and Kev keen not to put anyone at risk.

Anna said: "The fact we have plenty of outside space and are a quiet country pub with no staff to worry about puts us at an advantage.

"Also, with a population of only 520 people per square million compared to London's 3,236 also makes a massive difference and puts us all in a lower risk area, although we are in a commuter belt.

"With plenty to sort out, we are going to wait and review everything further before committing ourselves.

"There are a couple of small, private (now outdoor) parties that we are very much looking forward to honouring but that is it for now."

Lisa Boyton at the White Horse in Tattingstone cannot wait to present their newly refurbished garden and freshly painted pub.

"I must say it looks amazing, said Lisa. "We can't wait to welcome you all back and hope for your support.

"Please be assured that all the necessary guidelines for reopening will be followed for everyone's safety as this is something we take extremely seriously.

"Sitting at the bar will be prohibited and only three people will be permitted to order at the bar at a distance from each other at any one time so we shall therefore operate a queuing system.

"Table service will also be available and the tables will be suitably apart from each other.

"We shall have a one way operating system entering through the main pub door and out will be the door to the beer garden. Arrows will direct people.

"We shall have many hygiene stations available at various locations for the public to use at all times and the staff will also be cleaning throughout the day.

"We shall also need contact details for patrons recorded for the governments track and trace system."

Opening hours at the White Horse will be midday at weekends until 11pm at the latest and midday until 9pm in the week.

There will be a restricted menu of hot and cold food and to begin with, this will only be available until 5pm. the pub not be providing a roast dinner on the first Sunday and will monitor demand for this after that and they may still offer a takeaway service on a Friday evening.

The Shipwreck at Shotley marina, is finalising plans to open but it will be on July 4, at 11am and guidelines, including one-way system will be in place.

Brantham Leisure Centre will be open from 12noon on July 4 and there will be restrictions in place, and the club staff will reviewing how they receive orders and payments.

"We look forward to seeing you all then," said chief executive Darren Smith, "Remember social distancing will be in place as well as personal hygiene will be required as well as the centre having located around the facility hand sanitiser.

"We would advise that anyone showing or experiencing Coronavirus symptoms is not to attend the centre until they have self isolated under the Government Guidelines."

Meanwhile, the Bull at Brantham has had to delay its reopening due to their new kitchen still be completed following their fire.
