Saturday's Breakfast Briefing

Did you know?

On this day in 1944 D-Day took place as the biggest land, air and seaborne invasion the world has ever known was launched. Codenamed Operation Overlord saw 150,000 American, British and Canadian troops sailed to France from England and stormed the beaches of Normandy.

The Shotley peninsula played its part by helping to fool Hitler into thinking the attack would take place in Calais, when fake landing craft, tanks and dummy troops were placed at Woolverstone, with German airplanes photographing them along the Orwell.

Quote of the day:

"No thoughts had I of anything,

Or at least that's what I thought;

I even thought I couldn't think,

But now I think I never thought."

Christopher Miller, At This Point in Time

Riddle of the day:

We hurt without moving. We poison without touching. We bear the truth and the lies. We are not to be judged by our size. What are we?

Answer will be revealed tomorrow.

Previous Riddle Answer:

I am a shimmering field that reaches far. To the horizon I span beneath the universe's largest star. Yet I have no tracks and I am crossed without paths. What am I?

An Ocean
