Royal Hospital School's (RHS) Maths department in Holbrook, Ipswich, recently hosted an inspiring Star Wars-themed GCSE Maths Grade Booster Symposium. Appropriately held on May 4th (Annual Star Wars Day) the event was open to Year 10 pupils from across the region. Over 100 pupils took part from RHS, King's Ely, Holbrook Academy, and St Mary's in Colchester.

The first session, titled Reach For The Stars: Aiming For Grades 8-9, explored exam techniques and how to ensure a top grade. Keynote speaker Zoe Griffiths, a mathematician, former teacher, and maths communicator, then addressed the young audience, inspiring them with barcode predictions and mind-reading.

After a delicious RHS lunch, pupils then participated in an exciting Ultimate Galactic Maths Challenge where they further developed their maths knowledge with some fun Star Wars-themed problems with the help of the RHS Maths Department and pupils studying Further Maths.

Susie Botley, Head of Maths at Royal Hospital School and organiser of the event said: "What a superb day! We were fortunate to have such excellent speakers and it was great to see the pupils so engaged in the maths challenge in the afternoon!'

A visiting pupil quoted, 'I really liked the maths quiz in the afternoon; it was great fun, especially as all the questions had a Star Wars theme.'

RHS' Maths department also commented, 'It was so lovely to see 110 pupils from various schools working together to solve mathematical problems.'
