A Ringed Plover has been spotted with three chicks at an especially erected enclosure in Shotley

The young family was observed by an AONB nature recovery officer as part of a protection programme at the foreshore near Shotley marina.

Volunteers helped put up an area on the shingle favoured by Plovers for nesting, to dissuade dog walkers and ramblers from disturbing the protected zone.

Although some people ignored to signs, simple fencing with string, the Pavers still bred.It is hoped more birds will return to breed.
