Full details of road closures on peninsula over next few days
Peninsula motorists are set to be ht by a number of road closures over the next few days.
These include:
- An overnight closure, will take place for two days starting tomorrow at Woolverstone.
- Disruption on the Wherstead junction affecting access to the A14 and the road to Tattingstone.
- There will be no access to the Wherstead Road from Freston on Sunday, due to the Ipswich half-marathon– 8am - 1.15pm
The Main Road, Woolverstone closure is due to Anglian Water work and will take place at night after the last bus to avoid any buses or HGVs needing to use this route.
This will also reduce the number of vehicles using the diversion as at night traffic flows are much lighter. The working hours which have been enforced via a condition applied to their permit to work on the highway are 7pm tomorrow (Thursday) until 6am Friday, and again the following day and night.
A one-way system will be installed on Glebe Lane and the section of Harkstead Lane between Main Road and Glebe Lane.
This will mean that these two sections of road will only allow one lane of traffic and avoid vehicles meeting at a narrow section of road. These two sections of road are the narrowest points along the diversion.
Vehicles will only be allowed to travel south down Harkstead Lane until they get to Glebe Lane where it will become two-way, and vehicles will only be able to travel northeast up Glebe Lane.
All blue light services have been made aware of the road closure in advance of the works taking place and receive a copy of the diversion route.
Long running work on the junction at the top of Bourne Hill continues and there are overnight closures planned on the A14 slip roads on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.
The closure for the Ipswich Half Marathon is not for works to take place on the highway, purely for the race and will affect the route from Freston village to Portman Road.
The event will take place between 04:00 to 15:00. Unfortunately, there will be no official diversion route provided, however vehicles trying to exit Shotley will be able to access the B1080 road through Holbrook.
Race organisers can be contacted on 0113 826 7758. Or Ipswich half marathon website here.
