Volunteers across the peninsula donned their grabbers, gloves and bin bags to take part in the Big Help Out litter pick on the royal Bank Holiday Monday.

Brantham parish chairman and Babergh councillor Alastair McCraw said: "It was a wonderful effort by a good number of people, ranging from the very young to old hands and all in-between.

"We have a village to be proud of so it is really satisfying to see so many people care and get out to join in the Big Hep Out."

Meanwhile, helpers took to kayaks along the river Stour at Constable Park to clear the river banks.

Spokeswoman Sarah said: "Well done to our volunteers today to help us with the Constable Park River clean up.

"We ran two free sessions to clear our part of the river of litter that can only be reached from paddleboard or kayak.

"We hope to do another later in the summer."

There were also similar events in Erwarton and Harkstead where dozens of backs were filled ready to be removed by Babergh's public realm team.
