It takes something special to appeal to all ages, all types of people and locals and visitors to the Shotley peninsula alike.

That is exactly what the annual fundraising Peninsula Tractor Run proved to be as hundreds lined the sun-kissed route as 84 drivers manoeuvred their machines along farm trails and open roads to raise thousands for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

Led by organiser Russel Abbott, red, green, blue, yellow, white and grey tractors thrilled those lining the route and even though there were a few glitches along the way meaning the procession got more than an hour behind its predicted timetable, spectators showed patience and generosity.

Those we spoke to agreed it was well worth the wait as young children and the older generation enjoyed the free show and hailed it a success.
