A sex offender from Holbrook has been given warned he will be jailed if he reoffends again.

John Card (also known as Paul), 72, breached a sexual harm prevention order by repeatedly approaching an Ipswich schoolboy on a bus and inviting him back to his home in Jervis Close.

Card has been given a 16-month prison sentence, suspended for two years and a 60-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

Judge Rupert Overbury accepted nothing of a sexual nature had taken place, but Card had repeatedly asked the 17-year-old sixth former back to his home over a four-month period.

The boy's mother reported Card to the police in October last year and the 72-year-old admitted breaching a sexual harm prevention order handed to him in 2011 for sexually touching and sexual activity with a child, while he lived in Shotley. The prevention order restricted Card's contact with males under the age of 18.

Steven Dyble defending Card said his client, who has mental health issues, had caught the same bus as the schoolboy to visit his mother, who had since died.
