Peninsula pub makes upgrades after poor hygiene rating

A popular Shotley peninsula pub has taken a number of remedial steps to improve its hygiene rating.
The White Horse in Tattingstone was given a zero-rating by Babergh environmental health officers following a complaint.
Pub owner Simon Boyton confirmed that following the inspection in February earlier this year he voluntarily closed the White Horse kitchen for three three days and performed a thorough kitchen clean up.
A health officer revisited very shortly afterwards and was satisfied that the pub had complied with the faults that were reported at the first inspection.
An issue with the use of fridge/freezers in the container at the back garden was resolved. They are no longer in use and all food stuffs are now stored within the kitchen.
My Boyton is waiting for the White Horse to be visited again and once it is confirmed that environmental health officers are satisfied the pub is maintaining the standards he will request a full a re-inspection that will boost the rating.
All other pubs on the peninsula have a five-star rating (very good), except for the Bristol Arms at Shotley Gate, which has been given just three stars (generally satisfactory) following an inspection in October last year.
Meanwhile the Butt & Oyster in Pin Mill, which was last inspected in November 2021, has four stars (Good).
Five-star rated pubs (very good) on the peninsula include: The Shipwreck at Shotley marina, Rose Inn, Shotley, Red Lion, Chelmondiston, Freston Boot, The Outlook, Wherstead, Wheatsheaf, Tattingstone, The Swan, Holbrook, Kings Head, Stutton, Gardeners Arms, Stutton, The Cattawade Crown and the Bull at Brantham.
