Shotley Post Office and Premier Store will start operating reduced hours as from this morning to offer further protection to customers and staff.

Meanwhile Holbrook Post Office, based in the Co-op, has also tweaked its opening hours. (see below)

Manish Patel, owner of the family run shop in Kingsland, Shotley, will also operate a delivery system to those who need it most, and will wait for payment until those shielding can visit the store once more.

With the peninsula, along with the rest of Suffolk, now in Tier 4, Manish is looking to use the system which worked so well during the summer lockdown by rotating staff and operating shorter hours.

"This is about protecting our customers and staff the best way possible," said Manish. "We are staying open to provide for those who need their shopping but by reducing hours, it lessens the need for people to go out and they will only do so when they really need to.

"It is not about money for us, it is about providing the east possible safe service. That includes not working about payment if we deliver, we can wait until those people are able to come out one more."
