For so long the Shotley peninsula has been something of a hidden gem, seen by those in the bigger towns as a place to visit rather than live but it appears lockdown is changing that as coronavirus has forced people to rethink their lives, and for some a better home/work life balance has become a priority.

Research by Lloyds bank found that 57% of Britons who have worked from home during lockdown now think there is less need to live in a city, a figure that increases to 62% among those who currently call London home.

The same survey found that seven in 10 wanted to work from home more often but only four in 10 wanted to give up the office completely, and the peninsulas proximity to two mainline stations offers an idea opportunity to fulfil those ambitions.

A scroll though Shotley Nub News' property section highlights the excellent homes on offer, and with average prices dropping by around 33%, according to Zoopla, there are bargains to be had for those looking to flee London.

For example, this four-bed in Woolverstone is on the market for £815k, while this beautifully renovated two bed terraced home close to the Rose Inn could be yours for £220k

Zoopla tell us that the average sale price in IP9 over the past year has been £224,543, but the estimated value of homes is now £329,187 - based on the nine properties actually sold.

But why would people want to ditch London and live on the stunning Shotley peninsula?

For a start, it is not part of the Suffolk Coast Area of Natural Beauty for nothing, with its miles of river walks along either the Stour or the Orwell, it is a haven for those who love the outdoors.

Each village has its own unique character, all with a wonderful sense of community, history and culture. Get involved, or tuck yourself away, either way your choice will be respected.

Local shops have been a Godsend during lockdown, real hubs of communities, and in normal times, here are a myriad of clubs to join for fun company and stimulation, drama groups and walking, sailing or sports clubs.

For those with children; Shotley Kidzone has been rated 'Outsanding' by Ofsted, the primary schools are popular with parents and children, there is Holbrook academy, while two highly-rated private schools; Royal Hospital School and Ipswich High School in Woolverstone take boarders and locals.

There is good choice of pubs, some with amazing river views, others on the main routes (relatively speaking) all welcoming and enjoyable. You can soon makes one your local haunt.
