A peninsula parish council has called on Babergh to refuse permission for another major development scheme in its village.

Following a public meeting last night, Shotley parish councillors agreed to write to the planning authority asking it to reject an outline planning application by Bristol Estates to build 18 new houses on farming land between Shotley primary school and the village hall.

Nearly 100 people were at Shotley village hall, with many commenting or asking questions, and the vast majority seemingly against the scheme.

Concerns were raised over the safety of the access to the new housing estate up the current school entrance, which Bristol Estates made a point of saying they owned and were aware problems already existed.

However, there was scepticism from residents about they applicants understanding of the amount of traffic was generated at picking up and dropping off times, their figures of vehicle maven during those time sand if a thorough assessment of the potential danger to children, had been carried out.

The affordable home provision, seven of the 18, was questioned, which would allow purchasers to buy at 80% of whatever the market value was at the time. There were no homes allocated for social housing, affordable rented or shred ownership mentioned in the application, although representatives of the applicant last night claimed that would be dealt with at a late stage.

Heritage issues were also raised with the proximity and impact of the Grade II listed Rose Farm House, and also a listed barn, going against Babergh policies with a dispute over the level of harm identified.

Members of the public also questioned the infrastructure with the primary school and GP surgery of particular concern with the impact of the Ganges development still to be determined.

Shotley councillors, included heritage, access, infrastructure concerns and the need for the housing, as reasons to recommend refusal.

It will be down to Babergh's planning committee to determine the decision for approval, or refusal.

Public comments can still be made until the end of the working day tomorrow, but must be made by email: [email protected] and include reference DC/22/06397.
