James Cartlidge, who represents the Shotley peninsula in parliament as part of his role as South Suffolk MP, has been handed a spot with the exchequer.

Mr Cartlidge joins chancellor Jeremy Hunt in a junior role as the Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury.

The pair previously worked together when Mr Hunt was Secretary of State for Health & Social Care, and Mr Cartlidge remained his PPS when he was promoted to Foreign Secretary.

Mr Cartlidge previously worked as a junior minister when Rishi Sunak was Chancellor.

He lost his job in government when Mr Sunak resigned, and voted against liz Truss in the leadership elections. He was frozen out when she was appointed Prime Minister, before resigning 44 days later.

Mr Cartlidge was recently spotted sporting a black eye while speaking in the House of Commons but has so far refused to say how he got it.
