Conservative member of Parliament James Cartlidge has reiterated his support for prime minister Boris Johnson who last night won a confidence vote.
Tories voted 211 to 148 in favour of Mr Johnson, meaning 41% of his MPs showed a lack of confidence in him as their leader.
Although the vote was held in confidence, the South Suffolk MP, which includes the Shotley peninsula made clear his support for the PM in a Twitter message.
Mr Cartlidge said: "I reiterate my April statement backing the PM for the big strategic decisions he's got right on the pandemic & Ukraine, two of the most mammoth postwar challenges that we've faced as a nation."
Other Suffolk Conservative MPS, including Peter Aldous and Dan Poulter are understood to have voted against Johnson.
