South Suffolk MP James Cartlidge has not yet backed Boris Johnson after Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Health Secretary Sajid Javid and a number of junior ministers resigned.

While Cartlidge showed his support for his former boss Rishi Sunak, he stopped short of saying whether he would also jump ship in the wake of another Tory sleaze scandal.

The Downing Street Office of the Prime Minister had earlier denied the level of knowledge Mr Johnson had about the past record of shamed the shamed Tamworth MP, who has admitted groping men and unacceptable conduct in Parliament while drunk before appointing him to a position in the Conservative Whips' office. He has already been suspended from the Conservative Party and now faces other allegations.

Mr Johnson admitted he had been told about complaints about Mr Pincher in 2019 and made a "bad mistake" by not acting on it.

Within minutes of that admission, Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Health Secretary Sajid Javid resigned. Mr Sunak said the public expect "government to be conducted properly, competently and seriously" while Mr Javid told the Prime Minister he can "no longer, in good conscience, continue serving in this government".

They have subsequently been replaced by Nadhim Zahawi as chancellor, and Steve Barclay, as health secretary.

Ministry of Justice junior minister Mr Cartlidge, whose constituency includes the Shotley peninsula, took to Twitter to show his support for Sunak..

But Mr Johnson made it clear he planned to stay on as he moved to shore up his government with a cabinet reshuffle. 

He named Nadhim Zahawi as the new chancellor, while the prime minister's chief of staff, Steve Barclay, has become health secretary.

Mr Johnson will come under further pressure later today as he faces MPs at Prime Minister's Questions.

He is also due to give evidence to the Liaison Committee - a group of MPs who scrutinise the government's policy and decisions.
