Former East Anglian Daily Times editor David Henshall has died aged 89.

Mr Henshall, who is the father of West End star Ruthie Henshall, passed away this morning.

Journalist David also worked for the Daily Mail and the London Evening Standard in London, but it was as a long-serving and much respected editor and columnist at the EADT and Ipswich Star, that he will be best known.

Described by friends and colleagues as quick-witted, clever and a real gentleman, David was known to be a dapper dresser and marvellous character.

He and wife Gloria had four daughters, Noel, Susan, Abigail and Ruthie, and lived in Stutton, after moving up from Kent.

The Henshall family suffered a tragic loss when Susan's twin sister, 49-year-old Noel, collapsed and died in San Francisco in 2007, after taking painkillers.
