Peninsula hairdressers goes to four day week after cut in customers due to Covid
Chelmondiston hairdressers Hers & Sirs have cut down to a four-day week after a dramatic drop in people wanting their hair done as often as before.
Owner Lorraine Page and her staff will take an unpaid extra day off on Wednesdays as she desperately tries to keep the independently owned hairdressers afloat.
Although Hers & Sirs was initially very busy when it reopened following a lockdown of nearly six months, trade has dropped off with many people's habits changing due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Lorraine told Nub News: "My customers have been lovely, very loyal and understanding, but there is no doubt we are getting far less appointments. Some of that is due to people just not going out as much, and don't feel they need a hair do.
"We chose Wednesdays because we have far fewer regulars book in that day, and a couple of the staff work half days anyway. The staff have been brilliant in understanding why we need to cut running costs."
The move comes as Covid-19 cases have started to rise in the area once again, although Babergh still remains one of the least affected districts in the country.
An increase in positive tests in schools and care homes have been seen s the main cause for the rise in confirmed cases.
Hers & Sirs is still open on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Tuesdays. To book an appointment call 01473 780289 or go to their listing on our Business Directory here.
