A driver of car which today slid into a hedge on the Shotley peninsula has escaped serious injury.

The motorist got out of his Renault Clio complaining only of a back injury following the accident on the B1456 in Shotley early this afternoon.

No one else was involved in the accident near the bend approaching the cottages near Hall farm Road in Shotley.

Emergency services were not called and a recovery truck was summoned to help get the vehicle out of the ditch after the driver lost control on a slippery part of the bend.

No car windows were damaged in the accident and the car's airbags were not deployed.
