A peninsula business has responded to the county council's plea for personal protective equipment by donating a large box full.

Shotley Marina Ltd, has supplied quality 3M manufactured face-masks and protective clothing for NHS staff to use in the fight against the Covid-19 virus.

Marina staff responded to an appeal by Suffolk County Council, after seeing the plea publicised by Shotley Peninsula Nub News and contacted them with their details.

John Pipe, Shotley marina manager, said: "As soon as we heard about the appeal, staff were in the workshops finding what we can give.

"We use PPE when working on yachts, but we are closed so won't be needing it for a while. We hope this can all be of use to the HNS or other essential workers. our directors and workers are all keen to help in any way we can."

Support staff at the county are putting together 4,000 packs to send to front line staff, and to ensure care providers have plenty of protective equipment in their private suppliers fail to deliver.

Like many businesses, Shotley marina has shut down, only a duty lock keeper stays on site in cases of emergency.

All work on boats has ceased, The Shipwreck pub and restaurant has been closed since the end of March The Lofts B&Bs are empty and the museum has not opened as planned on Good Friday.

"Usually at this time of year the marina is buzzing with people sailing in and out, working on there boats, or just enjoyed a few drinks on deck," said Mr Pipe, 'As you can see, nothing it is strangely quiet but we welcome that and we thank people for staying at home."
