Vacancy after parish councillor quits

By Derek Davis

16th Mar 2021 | Local News

A casual vacancy has arisen for a parish councillor in Shotley.

Rob Bareham, from Chelmondiston, has resigned with immediate effect from Shotley Parish Council but will remain on the council of his home village.

No reason has been given for his resignation, although he has been noticeable by his absence in a number of Shotley parish council meetings recently.

The vacancy, advertised on the Babergh District Council website here... does not necessarily mean there will be an election, especially in May.

A vote by Shotley residents for the new councillor will only be called for if, by April 8 2021 a request for an election to fill the vacancy is made in writing to the Returning Officer at the address below by TEN electors.

If that many people all for it then an election will be held to fill the said vacancy, otherwise the vacancy will be filled by co-option. If an election is called, it will take place not later than 15th June 2021.

Proper Officer:

Arthur Charvonia, Returning Officer, Endeavour House, 8 Russell Road, Ipswich, Suffolk, IP1 2BX.
