Orwell Bridge closure meant delays but not as bad as usual

Motorists driving on and off the peninsula were delayed this after when the Orwell Bridge was closed due to unexpected high winds between 13.00 and 16.00.

However, the relatively low numbers of drivers heading west from Felixstowe were held up for just 30 minutes, with one Shotley resident surprised at how quickly he got through.

Bill Wynard, told Nub News: "The forecast was for a gentle breeze so I was surprised to get to Nacton and get diverted.

"I wanted to miss the high tide at the Strand and fortunately the traffic was not too bad. It was mainly HGVs and we kept moving so it only took about 20minutes to half and hour longer than usual.

"A vast improvement on when I got caught earlier in the year. And the Strand was clear too."
