Ten fire crews from as far as Colchester and Debenham helped tackled a blaze on the Shotley peninsula this afternoon.

Holbrook's firefighters were also on the shout after the alarm was first raised with three appliances from Princes Street and two from Ipswich East, joined by one from Woodbridge, another from Felixstowe, and one from Debenham as well as the Debenham and Colchester crews.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue were fist called out at 2.28pm this afternoon, to a fire in Wades Lane, Shotley, with an official stop called at 3.45pm, although crews were still onsite some two hours later.

The fire started in a field next to Wades Lane but soon spread across the road with fears that would would cause even more damage due to the tinder dry peninsula.
