Moves to build 75 homes in Wherstead took a step nearer after planners accepted a pledge by developers to ensure electric charging points would be installed on the small estate.
Essex-based Bellway Homes agreed to install electric car charging points in all the garages on the site at Klondyke Field, west of Bourne Hill, which was one of 36 conditions attached to the permission granted to build the new houses.
Other conditions include a new Toucan crossing on the Wherstead Road near to the entrance of Bourne Park, improved access to Bourne Hill, new cycle ways and footpaths are built and landscaping of the area.
Babergh planning committee agreed by a majority decision to allow outline permission for the development last year, despite 37 objections from the 38 people that commented on the application, including neighbouring businesses and residents.
Wherstead parish council also spoke against the development pointing out that the new homes would add more than double the amount of homes in the area, and add to the traffic delays along the B1456 and A137, while depriving the area of natural woodland.
The site has subsequently been sold by the original applicants and landowners Pigeon (Wherstead Ltd, to Bellway and plans are being drawn up to show what the final development will look like.
A full list of the conditions and permissions can be found on the Babergh planning website, using reference number: DC/18/00706.
Meanwhile, plans to build a McDonalds, a service station and other units close by have recently been put forward, adding to concerns of congestion to the area.
