An appeal has been made to find out more information after an engraved watch with HMS Ganges links was discovered tucked away in a drawer.

Nigel Prior found the silver coloured watch while clearing his mum's house after she passed away and was intrigued with the back story.

The back of the watch is engraved with the inscription: PO Tel Harris. From 217 Class, HMS Ganges. 2-8-36.

It is a likely that the petty officer was an telegraphist instructor at the Royal Navy Training Establishment at Ganges, and he was presented with the watch by his class.

Mr Prior said: "I wonder if you could shed some light on this watch.  My mum sadly passed away recently and by going through the house I found this watch engraved on the back. I would like to find out more about it please,"

Mr Prior has been directed to the HMS Ganges Museum website but if you know anything about this, someone from 217 Class, or were a friend of PO Tel Harris, please get in touch with Mr Prior via the editor: [email protected]
