Pin Mill's famous Barge Race was started in the summer of 1962 after 100 years of sailing barge racing on the Thames ended leaving many enthusiasts fearing that would be to be the end of a unique sailing activity. However, barge owners in the Suffolk hamlet decided a Barge Class should be incorporated in the Pin Mill Sailing Club August Regatta, and remains popular to this day as the activity over the weekend showed.
