Two funny families from the peninsula are in line to win a national competition after making a song and dance during lockdown.

The Millers and the Brooms made the final five in the Beano's search for the nation's funniest families and you can help choose the winner.

Katrina Miller, who was Shotley born, worked at the High School and also lived in Stutton, created a hilarious home version of Queens 'Don't Stop Us Now', along with Scott, Devon and Lola.

Michelle Broom, renowned for her cake-making skills, husband Colin and their two children from Shotley, have made a comic short video of them all singing and dancing.

Comedian Romesh Ranganathan and a panel of Beano gag makers shortlisted the finalists, but the eventual winners will be chosen by public vote online. Closing date is June 14, and the winner will be announced on Monday, June 15.

Peninsula families the Millers and Brooms entered the Song and Dance category and are up against three other families with their competition coming from, Barry, Temple Cloud and Abingdon.

The ever-popular comic looked to keep the nation laughing by finding Britain's Funniest Family with the winners imagined into an epic comic strip, which will be published in the Beano. So the Brooms or Millers could become Britain's Funniest Family and be the stars of the World's funniest comic.

The winners will also get:

-A one year subscription to the Beano for the family and five friends

-Britain's Funniest Family of 2020 Beano trophy

-One Nintendo Switch
