District councillor Derek Davis has listed the benefits the developers of Barrelman's Point, the former HMS Ganges site, following a raft of misinformation and false rumours spread on social media.

Ganges ward councillor, and Babergh cabinet member of Economic Growth and regeneration, Cllr Davis said: "A lot of nonsense is posted on social media by people making out they are some sort of expert on the matter but they are clearly talking twaddle.

"It is time the legal agreement signed by the developers following planning permission agreed in 2015 is aired once again.

"Conditions are being ticked off, at a quickening rate and the developers have actually gone beyond there legal requirements by getting the Ganges mast renovated ahead of time.

"I'm grateful to those people that have taken the time to check the facts, either with me, or the developer, and have become better informed.

"Hopefully this definitive list provides a useful reference sheet will help to show people the true facts, so they can also educate the keyboard warriors determined to make mischief."

A legal agreement, known as a S106, is in place ensuring the developers will pay £6.5m in contributions to education, healthcare, a community cycle path, bus services, heritage and highways, although more than £5m of that is deferred, making it payable once various stages of the development are completed.

This means social housing, in Shotley nd other parts of the peninsula will befit. As will Kidzone, Shotley primary school, Shotley and Holbrook GP surgeries, bus services, cycle routes, birdlife, and open spaces and heritage assets on the site.

These payments include contributions to:

·      Affordable Housing - £3.2m

·      Bus services - £1.56m

·      Community cycle path extension - £660k

·      Shotley cycle path £235k

·      Kidzone - £121.8k

·      Shotley primary school - £437k

·      Healthcare - £98k
