Police are hunting for joy-riders that stole a car then smashed into a stationary vehicle in Freston.

Occupants of a white Mazda, stolen three days earlier in Duke Street, Ipswich, ran off after smashing into a parked up red Datsun, causing it to spin round and is considered a write off.

Witnesses saw the culprits make off, despite the likelihood injuries would have been caused given the severity of the impact.

A Freston woman described the moment suspected joy riders crashed into a stationary car causing serious damage.

Elle Lemon, whose parents own the red vehicle, said: "They must have hit the car at great speed because of the damage that was made to the car, flipping it around so it was pointing in another direction and also the loud bang that was heard, after hearing this we went straight outside, however, they quickly ran off, despite probably being injured themselves."

The incident in a quiet street in Freston happened around 8pm last Wednesday and an appeal has been made for information.

A police spokesman said: "Two males were reported to have been seen running from the road traffic collision – they are described as tall and skinny wearing dark clothing.

"No-one was hurt and the driver of the white Mazda remains outstanding.

"Anyone who knows who was responsible or heard or saw any suspicious activity in the Duke Street area on 16 December or at Freston on 19 Jan should contact Suffolk police, quoting crime number 37/3844/22."
