Huge boost for Suffolk Sound

The brand-new radio station for Suffolk, Suffolk Sound is thrilled to announce significant developments that will further enhance their commitment to serving the local community. Thanks to a recent infusion of investment and the appointment of new directors, the new digital radio station is poised to expand further its impact and offerings for its listeners. 

Co-founder Richie Ross said: "The injection of new capital into Suffolk Sound marks a pivotal moment in our growth trajectory.

"This investment will empower us to upgrade our facilities, enhance programming and reach a broader audience across Suffolk. We are deeply grateful for the support of our investors, whose confidence in our mission is a testament to the important of community-driven media. 

The new Directors appointed are: 

Scott Russell – Scott was a founder of Paddy & Scott's, a Business Coach, Mentor and Angel Investor;

Steve Flory – Steve is Managing Director of the Hudson Group and Hudson Sign Solutions and supporter of many charities and organisations across Suffolk; 

Jenna Ackerley – Jenna is founder and Managing Director of Events Under Canvas, a successful events company operating across Suffolk;

Sarah Smy – Sarah is a Finance Director of a number of companies as well as Director of her own chain of coffee shop 

Richie added: "Each director brings a wealth of experience and passion for community engagement to our organisation. Their expertise will be invaluable as we navigate this exciting new chapter and continue to elevate the role of Suffolk Sound across the region."

Suffolk Sound aired its first programme in July 2023 and has since built up a one of the regions strongest portfolio of presenters including from BBC Radio Suffolk, Mark Murphy MBE, Stephen 'Foz' Foster and Stephanie Mackentyre.

The new company has been established as a CIC organisation which will see future profits used for further growth and development of this truly local radio station for Suffolk.   

Director and Investor Scott Russell said: "I've been overwhelmed by the fantastic growth of Suffolk Sound in such a short space of time. It has filled a gap in the community media landscape not served by any other station and was only too pleased to join them on this journey." 

Co-Founder Rob Dunger, said: "We are thrilled to welcome our new directors and embark on this journey of growth and innovation together. With their guidance and the support of our investors, we are confident in our ability to deliver even more meaningful content and services to our listeners."

We have provided a platform for diverse voices, local artists and emerging talent, and community organisations, supporting good causes across the region. This new phase of development underscores our enduring commitment to serving as a vital hub of information, entertainment, and connection." 

The popular new radio station for Suffolk attracts 22,000 listeners a month to its broadcasts as well as  more than 6,500 followers across its social media channels.

With a varied mix of music and chat about local community events, people and projects it attracts listeners from across Suffolk and beyond.
