It is a little known fact that Liz Truss is a keen bee-keeper and loves East Anglian honey.

The newly-elected Conservative leader, ergo, our prime minister, got a taste of the sweet stuff when she visited the Shotley peninsula in 2016 and popped into the Cookhouse next to the Suffolk Food Hall.

Given her keen interest in all things apiary, the then environment secretary was presented with a bee hive cake baked and decorated by Graham and Tina of the Outrageous Cake Company after being introduced by their Independent councillor Derek Davis and MP James Cartlidge.

To make it extra special Tina drizzled the stunning creating with honey from Shotley bee-keeper Barrie Powell, which Ms Truss could not resist but swipe with her finger and taste, and was hooked.

She was presented with a jar of the East Anglian honey, popular across the peninsula.
