Hardy Harkstead market stallholders make return - picture special

Hardy Harkstead market stallholders made a slightly soggy but relatively successful return today.

Due to current Covid restrictions the monthly market was held outside in the car park with many stalls using gazebos to protect their wares from the drizzle.

That did not stop a steady stream of customers turning up, and while numbers were not the highest the market has seen, the stallholders were delighted to be back in the swing of things.

They enjoyed catching up with old friends and renewing acquaintances with previous customers and other buyers old and new.

Regulars such as Tracey Bacon's Tropic Skincare and East End Butchers, were joined by first-timers Rustic Wooden Gifts, while there were bakery goodies, fresh veg, plants, cards and trinkets, bespoke design cushions and various colourful fabrics, to provide an interesting mix for customers and browsers alike.

Babergh councillor Mary McLaren, who represents Stour ward, was there to offer her support and buy some produce, along with many Harkstead villagers and visitors from around the peninsula.

There are plans next month for the Harkstead Market to return to normal inside the village hall, while still operating outside for those stalls that want to, and customers can enjoy the best of both worlds.
