Fun in the snow - Shotley peninsula readers' pictures

By Derek Davis

9th Feb 2021 | Local News

From the Strand to the tip of the Shotley peninsula the cold, crisp and even snow has covered our area with mixed reactions and you have been spending in your pictures. (Scroll right on top picture to see more)

With many local schools closed, even home learning took a back seat to getting out in the white stuff to have fun, be creative or just chuck snowball at their parents.

While wild snowmen, giant snow balls and snow angels were made by children, and animals frolicked, some for the first time the snow provided light relief for those who did not have to brave the roads.

Think about the likes of Gavin the milkmen battle through virgin snow, in the dark, our posties, carers and other critical workers who still turned up for work, helped by volunteer farmers and their snow plough and tractors, clearing the way or helping stranded motorists.

Although Storm Darcy has blown through, we have another day of this Beast from the East 2, with minus temperatures, adding to cause disruptions with some vaccination centres and school closed.
