20th Nov 2020 | Local News
On This Day: in 868, St. Edmund, Saxon king of East Anglia, was martyred by the Vikings, who tied him to a tree, shot at him with arrows, then beheaded him. He gave his name to the town Bury St. Edmunds in Suffolk. Some say St. Edmund could be buried in what is now Abbey Gardens next to St Edmundsbury Cathedral. He is the patron saint of kings and against plaque and torture. St. Edmund is honored as a martyr of the church.
