Fire crew called out after boat burnt out by vandals on peninsula foreshore

A fire crew from Holbrook was called out after a boat was set ablaze on the foreshore by the river Stour.

Firefighters had to walk almost 300metres to reach the abandoned yacht between the Shotley picnic area and the Brickyards this morning to check on the boat.

The crew found a smouldering wreck, with smoke still swirling from the ashes at 09.30 this morning, after being guided to the location by passer-by.

The wreck has been on the beach for more than a year and had rotted quite badly due to the weather and its exposed location.

Concerns had been raised that the boat was being used but it was confused with the yacht which is moored on a sand bank lying off the Shotley foreshore, with the owner awaiting repairs.

People are advised to call 999 for all emergencies.
