An eight-year-old has set a two-kilometre walking challenge to raise money for a defibrillator to be housed at Shotley Gate.

Emily Troman, from Chelmondiston, is aiming to raise funds for the defibrillator by getting as many people as possible to pay £2 each and take part in the 2K, and one lucky walker will win a bumper hamper of goodies.

Emily's mum Josie told Nub News: "Emily wanted to raise money for a local charity or something local that would help everyone and it was suggested to her to help the defib for Shotley.

"She is extremely excited to help everyone in Shotley have this lifesaving equipment to hand."

Shotley Open Spaces have wanted to house defibrillator near the picnic area of Shotley Gate, which they could also use on their health walks, and have already raised almost half of their £2,000 target.

This defibrillator will have enhanced dust and water resistance and also have a child setting, and will be stored in a lockable box on the wall of the Bristol Arms, where the landlord will supply the electricity free of charge to keep the batteries topped up ready for deployment at the wet end of the village.

Geraint Pugh, Shotley Open Spaces secretary, said: "Nothing remains a secret in this village for long and Josie's wonderful eight year old daughter, Emily, immediately said she would be delighted to fund raise for us and we are more than happy to help her in any way we can to fulfil this wonderful, generous task.

"On top of that the ever helpful Manish is allowing home made face masks to be sold at his shop. The proceeds are going to the Church. Andrew Coulson has indicated that he would like these proceeds to be diverted to the SOS defib for the next few weeks.

"If people support these two fundraisers, or contribute a small amount each, we should get the money together quite quickly."

Donate via PaypalmeEmily link or drop a named envelope, along with contact details and £2 to Hollingsworth's.

Last entry for the draw is September 3 and the winner will be announced on September 5.

Winner will be drawn Saturday, September 5.
