Development plans next to Erwarton Hall refused - again
A bid to convert barns build five new homes in the farmyard next to Erwarton Hall has been rejected - again.
Babergh's planning committee voted 6-5 to accept the officer's recommendation to refuse the application for the conversion, repair and extension of existing agricultural buildings to form five dwellings.
Developers also wanted to demolish existing metal clad barns.
Although JRH Veenbaas made changes to the access and glazing to the application which was refused last September, it was still deemed to be contrary to a number of Babergh policies and the National Planning Policy Framework.
The latest application was refused on a variety of grounds including concerns over light pollution, the farmyard's unsustainable location, harm to the neighbouring Grade 11 listed Erwarton Hall, and Grade 1 listed Gatehouse.
The site is within the Suffolk Coast & Heaths Area of Natural Beauty, and the AONB team were among the objectors.
This is the fourth application for the conversion of the existing barns to residential use at this site; one of which was withdrawn while the other two were also refused consent.
The full application details can be found on the Babergh planning portal using reference DC/22/05131
