No doubt to the disappointment of some pupils, and the relief of many parents, Kidzone and Shotley Community Primary school will reopen tomorrow, as planned.

Both educational establishments went through a deep clean today after a child that attends both, was deemed by a doctor t have a 'probable' case of Covid-19, and the closure was purely precautionary.

Richard Dedicoat, head teacher at the community school, thanked parents for their understanding and support.

"Thank you for your understanding in these unprecedented circumstances," said Mr Dedicoat.

"The school has received a deep clean today and is ready for your children to return tomorrow.

"We look forward to seeing them in the morning. Can we ask that all children have named water bottles to ensure they stay hydrated. Thanks for your continued support."

Kidzone put out a message on social media confirming it would reopen as usual Tuesday morning and thanked parents.

Meanwhile, the government have not ruled out school closures in the near future.

The government's chief scientific adviser, Sir Patrick Vallance, today said the measures outlined already should have a big effect on reducing the peak and reducing the death rate but they will not be easy, and in future other measures may be necessary, like school closures. But they would need to be introduced at the right time.

As of 18.00 this evening, a further 19 people have died after testing positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of deaths in England to 53, NHS England said. There has also been one death in Wales and one in Scotland bringing the total number of deaths in the UK to 55.

Public Health England guidance should be read and followed. If you have been in contact with someone with coronavirus or have returned from an affected area identified by the Chief Medical Officer as high risk and you are feeling unwell with a cough, difficulty breathing or fever, stay at home and use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service or call NHS 111. It is everybody's responsibility to follow Government guidelines regarding self-isolation, please click: Covid-19 ADVICE to see the most up to date official guidance.
