Confirmed case at peninsula school among Babergh's latest Covid case figures
Babergh has seen 89 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the district within the week leading up to Saturday, November 7.
The positive coronavirus figures are understood to include at least one from Holbrook Academy, along with a number from a care home in Hadleigh.
While cumulative cases in the district have risen to 677, Babergh is still one of the least affected areas in the country, ranked 281st out of 315.
Like Suffolk, Babergh's average weekly case rate dropped slightly, while those in Mid Suffolk and East Suffolk rose. 586 cases were reported in the county over the seven day period, and concerns over an ever increasing total during October has prompted concerns over a second wave.
Between October 16 and November 1, there have been 25 Covid deaths reported at Ipswich and Colchester hospitals, which take patients from the Shotley peninsula, and are part of the North Essex and Suffolk Foundation Trust.
Stuart Keeble, director for Public Health in Suffolk and chair of the Suffolk Health Protection Board said: "A second wave of Covid-19 poses a greater threat to Suffolk, because its very existence shows we need to do even more than we already have, to stop the spread. Cases have risen here in Suffolk throughout October, as we have seen nationally, and crucially hospital admissions have also increased.
"That is why now is the time to act and pull together as a community - we must all stay at home as much as possible, avoiding unnecessary journeys and work from home if we can.
"The most effective thing we can do to reduce the spread of the virus is to reduce the number of people we come into contact with. By staying at home as much as possible we can reduce the number of people we pass the virus to."
